glass ceiling

there's that glass ceiling again!! every woman who is living the daily "grind" of the working world has their own interpretation of what this means. in general terms, as we make our way through the economic, social and private worlds in which our lives exist, some of us feel the confines of the "glass" ceiling.

dare i say that we have forged so many cracks in it that it will soon be gone??

essential

i think this is self explanatory. the reciprocal nature of the cycle is where the beauty lies. eventhough i should say the whole thing was planned, the timing of the photo was serendipitous actually. i was taking a picture of the magnolia in it's full bloom when into the frame flew the bee and so it took on another meaning -- the cycle or circle of life. in this case, the flora cycle...bud, bloom, death. mirrors real life, n'est ce pas?

dream...

i love this image of the lamp at night. it illuminates not only the corner of the room, but the lighting seems to draw you into another world of thought and imagination. a sort of "highlight" to another time whether real or make believe, hence the text, "sit with it and dream."

whose life?

This image has oh so many interpretations to it...the plant and water read of life while juxtaposed with a zipper which also has huge connotations on life for many. The piece is about change and the constant of that all around us & in us too. I think the visual image of this is beautiful with the colors, lines, imagery, but it can be an "ugly" piece with all the meaning it holds for people about weight, life going on or ending or the image of everything being all zipped up nice & tidy.

"motion"

this image serves as a reminder to me of the pace of life... whether we move quickly, slowly or not at all, the world is in constant motion and relents to no one, no thing...

"on bended knee"

this piece in the artomat series was actually purchased here in San Antonio by a friend of mine. she let me know last week that she got it & loved it. (whew!) anyway, it is a piece which juxtaposes the modern fabric of art - sculpture in the foreground - with old historical buildings in the background. then pushed further with the "muerte" in prayer to the "gods." anecdote on belief systems throughout history. the photo was taken on the roof of the Walker museum in Minneapolis.
